RECAP: Northwood softball split a pair of games for the third straight day in Florida Monday (March 9), defeating Rockhurst 3-1 before falling to Trevecca Nazarene 5-2.

ROCKHURST HIGHLIGHTS

  • Rockhurst got their only run of the game right away, scoring in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
  • That lead held up until the bottom of the third inning when NU's Julia Gross gave the Timberwolves all the offense they would need. Her three-run homer made the score 3-1.
  • Both teams had chances after that but were unable to score.

  • Trevecca got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning with a single run.
  • Northwood leveled the score immediately in the top of the fifth on a Haley Frank RBI double to score Tara Gross.
  • The big play of the game came in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded and two outs, the Trojans' Megan Groves hit a grand slam to bring home four unearned runs to make the score 5-1.
  • Northwood did get one back in the top of the sixth on Tara Gross single, but got no closer.
