RECAP: Northwood softball splits a pair at Davenport Wednesday afternoon (April 7). 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood took advantage of a pair of Davenport errors in the top of the first inning to score runs. Maddie Coulter and Tara Gross came hope in the inning to give the Timberwolves a 2-0 lead.
  • The Timberwolves made it 3-0 in the top of the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice by Lauren Castellon that scored Karlie Moore.
  • Davenport plated an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 3-1.
  • NU responded right away in the fifth. After a Tara Gross double and a Julia Gross walk, Samantha Slick brought them both home with a double to push the NU advantage to 5-1.
  • Northwood broke the game open in the top of the sixth. After a Coulter leadoff single, the Timberwolves posted three-straight run-scoring doubles thanks to Tara Gross, Julia Gross and Grace Dutoi that made the score 8-1.
  • Pinch-hitter Mikayla Gronback scored two more with an RBI single that gave the Timberwolves a 10-1 lead.
  • Davenport stayed alive in the bottom of the sixth with some help from Northwood. NU committed two errors, allowing the Panthers to score four runs to make the score 10-5.
  • DU added a solo home run in the seventh but got no closer, giving the Timberwolves the win.
