Softball Places Six On All-GLIAC Teams

2021 All-GLIAC Softball Team

SANDUSKY, OHIO – The Northwood University softball team placed six players on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The league announced the honorees in conjuction with the GLIAC Tournament Tuesday (May 11)

Pitcher Shayna Frank earned First Team All-GLIAC honors. Shortstop Julia Gross along with outfielders Grace Dutoi and Maddie Coulter each were named Second Team All-GLIAC. Catcher Samantha Slick and second baseman Tara Gross were placed on the Honorable Mention team.

Frank enters the postseason with a 17-6 record and a 2.23 ERA. She ranks second in the GLIAC in wins while leading the GLIAC in innings (147.2) and complete games (19). Frank also stands third in the conference in strikeouts (131). Her 17 wins are the sixth-most in a season in Northwood history.

Julia Gross stands with a .331 average with seven home runs and 40 RBIs. She currently leads the GLIAC in doubles (14) while ranking second in runs batted in (40), fourth in total bases (83) and fifth in slugging percentage.

Dutoi finished the regular season with a .371 average with three home runs and 34 RBIs. She currently ranks fourth in the league in RBIs 34 while also ranking fifth in doubles (11), seventh in batting average and sixth in on-base percentage (.430).

Coulter is batting .328 with six home runs and 19 RBIs to go along with a GLIAC-leading 44 runs scored. She ranks fourth in the conference in stolen bases and 10th in the league in slugging percentage (.549). Coulter ranks in the top-10 in the GLIAC in six different categories.

Slick has had a breakthrough season in her final year at Northwood. She has started at catcher for the Timberwolves in 37 of 38 games. Slick is batting .316 with a home run and 16 RBIs while registering a .371 on-base percentage.

Tara Gross was having the best season of his career prior to injury April 7. She is batting .383 with two home runs and 14 RBIs. She had 30 runs scored in just 23 games to go along with nine doubles. Despite missing the last 15 games, Tara Gross still ranks eighth in the GLIAC in runs and 10th in doubles.

Northwood enters the GLIAC Tournament as the number two seed in the event, having finished the regular season 26-12 overall, 18-10 in the GLIAC. The Timberwolves are currently ranked third in the latest NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings.
