Five Northwood Softball Players Earn All-Conference Honors

Softball All-GLIAC Release

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University softball team was well-represented on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Teams, which were announced Saturday (May 7).

The sisters, Shayna Frank and Haley Frank, as well as Alexis Koehler represented the Timberwolves on the Second Team. Teammates Emily Mankel and Brittany Steimel were named to the Honorable Mentions list.

The week four pitcher of the week, Shayna Frank, has been a cornerstone for the Timberwolves pitching staff her whole career. This year she was the veteran leading the team. She eclipsed both the 400 and 500 career strikeout marks this season. She is second in the GLIAC this season with 16 wins and seventh in ERA and has totaled 135.2 IP this season.

Haley, the everyday shortstop for the Timberwolves, is batting .351 this season, the eighth-best in the conference this season. Haley has made some spectacular plays this season defensively, her 81 assists this season ranked 10th in the GLIAC. She earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors for week 11.

Koehler was one of the best defensive centerfielders in the league. She also was an on-base machine, sporting a .434 OBP. This was a break-out season for Koehler, starting all 44 games for Northwood this season. Koehler was first on the team with nine HBP this season.

Steimel led the team with seven home runs this season and earned the GLIAC week six player of the week honor. As a freshman, when she hit the ball, it flew. Steimel batted .274 with a .400 OBP and was fourth on the team with 24 RBIs.

Mankel did her damage with the bat. The right-fielder was second on the team in home runs (6) and hits (43) and third in RBIs (28). Mankel's break-out season was one to remember as played in all 44 games and helped lead the Timberwolves to the four seed in the 2022 GLIAC Tournament.
