Softball Sweeps Ashland In Sunday Doubleheader

RECAP: Northwood softball continued their road trip to Ohio with two games versus Ashland Sunday (April 14). The Timberwolves wound up sweeping the doubleheader taking game one 5-2 and game two 6-4.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ashlyn Lundquist led off game one with a walk. She would later open the scoring with an RBI single to right from Madison Jordan, 1-0 NU.
  • Ashland struck right back with an RBI single of their own, scoring a runner from second, 1-1.
  • Northwood rallied in the fifth, a Lundquist lead off single led to another run as she was plated via an Ashley Ziel laser off the left field wall, 2-1 NU.
  • Delanie Gale followed Ziel with a left-center double to plate Ziel, extending the lead to 3-1.
  • NU's three-run fifth was capped off with a single up the middle by Gianna Fantin, scoring Gale, 4-1 NU.
  • Two Ashland defensive miscues led to Northwood scoring another in the sixth. Ziel reached and came around to score on a Steimel single through the right side, 5-1 NU.
  • The Eagles added a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Brittani Mutter went the final 1.2 innings to seal it for a 5-2 victory for the Timberwolves.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood continued their offensive rallies into game two. In the second, back-to-back doubles from Jordan and Gale gave the Timberwolves the early 1-0 lead.
  • Jillian Krawczak's sac bunt put runners on second and third for Karlie Moore to drive Gale home with a groundout to the pitcher, 2-0 NU
  • NU capped the second with an RBI double from Schloop to plate Elexia Fuentes for the 3-0 lead.
  • Steimel kept the momentum in the Timberwolves favor. An RBI double scoreed Ziel all the way from first following her leadoff single, 4-0 NU.
  • A Jordan sac fly plated Steimel to extend the NU lead to 5-0.
  • The Eagles would not go quietly. Ashland rallied in the fourth for four runs to bring it within one. Two walks and a double gave them two before a single and fielder's choice made it a 5-4 game.
  • Gale pushed the lead back to two with a sac fly the score Ziel in the fifth, 6-4 NU.
  • The Timberwolves held on for the 6-4 victory as Emily Cox went the distance to pick up her 13th win of the season.
