Steimel And Cox Earn First Team All-Conference Honors From The G-MAC

FULL G-MAC ALL-CONFERENCE HONOREES RELEASE

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood softball team had two players earn First Team All-Conference honors from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Wednesday (May 1).

Senior Emily Cox (Troy, Ont., Canada) and junior Brittany Steimel (Traverse City, Mich.) were Northwood's players honored with the First Team All-Conference distinction.

This is Cox's first career all-conference honor, as the senior had a breakout 2024 campaign, totaling a 15-5 record with two saves in 129 innings of work. She has struck out 124 batters, allowing just 28 free passes and bolstering a 1.36 ERA with four shutouts. Cox ranks third in the conference for ERA and wins, and fourth for batting average against (.201) and saves.

The Troy, Ontario native was named to the 2024 Tucci/ National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) DII Player & Pitcher of the Year watchlist released earlier this season (March 28). Her stellar senior season can be summed up by her no-hitter versus Ky. Wesleyan (March 30) en route to a Timberwolves 10-0 win in five innings.

As for Steimel, this is the junior's second all-conference honor (Honorable Mention All-GLIAC, 2022). In a career year, Steimel is t-4th in the conference with 10 home runs this season, batting a whopping .355 with 42 RBIs and a .425 OBP. Steimel is also top-20 in the conference for slugging percentage (7th - .638), hits (11th – 54), walks (17th – 16), and doubles (18th – 11).

Steimel has also flashed the leather at first base with the highest fielding percentage (.997) for athletes with at least 240 chances. Steimel finished with 337 chances and 330 putouts with six assists.

The Timberwolves continue the postseason run in the conference tournament Thursday (May 2). No. 4 Northwood is set to play No. 1  Trevecca Nazarene in the second round of the G-MAC Tournament at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
