Softball Earns Big Series Sweep Over ODU On Senior Day

RECAP: Northwood softball extended their win streak to seven Saturday (April 19) with a big doubleheader sweep of Ohio Dominican. 2-1 and 3-1 were the final scores. Northwood's pitching limited the ODU offense to two runs combined on the day.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ohio Dominican jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A two-out double over the center fielder's head scored the runner from first, 1-0 ODU.
  • Gale's team-leading seventh home run of the year tied it up 1-1 in the fourth.
  • Following the homer, Northwood started a two-out rally. Singles from Gianna Fantin and Gage Lambert put runners on first and second for Chloe Cooper to knock in the tiebreaking run. Her single back to center scored Fantin from second, 2-1 NU.
  • Ashley Ziel went 4.1 IP before turning the ball over to Brittani Mutter. Mutter earned a huge groundball 1-2-3 double play to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth.
  • Mutter went the final two innings to notch the save for the Timberwolves in the 2-1 final.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Delanie Gale and Ashley Ziel traded spots with back-to-back doubles to open a 1-0 lead in the first of game two, 1-0 NU.
  • Moving to the third, Gale added her second home run of the day and eighth on the year with a two-run shot just over the center field fence to score Lundquist, 3-0 NU.
  • Brynn Polega was dealing yet again, sporting a shutout through the first five frames. The Panthers eventually added a sac fly in the sixth to bring it within two, 3-1 NU.
  • Polega eventually nailed down the 3-1 win in the seventh, giving NU their first-ever series sweep of the Panthers.
