Northwood Throws Hit Four Provisional Marks As Track & Field Competes At SVSU And Boston U.

OVERVIEW 

MEET: JET'S PIZZA INVITATIONAL / JOHN THOMAS TERRIER CLASSIC

LOCATION: SVSU – UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. / BOSTON U. – BOSTON, MASS.

RECAP: Northwood track & field was back on the track with the majority of athletes competing at SVSU for the Jet's Pizza Invite with another going to Boston for the John Thomas Terrier Classic.

INSIDE THE MEET – JOHN THOMAS TERRIER CLASSIC

  • Dillan Haviland was the lone competitor for the Timberwolves. Haviland ran the mile where he finished 91st out of 339 runners with a 4:11.91 finish.

FOR THE MEN

  • Northwood's throws squad had two athletes hit NCAA Provo marks in the weight throw. Sebastian Tesch won the event with a 19.10m toss on his fifth attempt, and freshman Luke Eros eclipsed the 18-meter mark with an 18.77m toss on his final attempt. Eros' personal record (PR) makes him fifth on NU's all-time performers' list for the event and is 21st in DII this season.
  • Will Nemecek repped the Blue and White for the shot put. He finished second with an NCAA Provo mark of 16.95m from his fifth attempt.
  • Blake Vier (8.22q) and Matheu Morrison (8.25q) qualified for the 60m hurdle finals, placing second and third during prelims. The duo later took second and third in the finals with Morrison (8.27) taking second and Vier (8.29) taking third.
  • In the 3000m results, Brandon Boyd (8:25.87) and Preston Earl (8:29.36) finished in the top four, Boyd second and Earl fourth. Earl's time is a new PR moves him into sixth in NU's all-time performers book for the 3000m.
  • Arthur Powell IV and Vier were Northwood's best finishers in the 60m dash prelims. Both placed t-13th during the 60m prelims with each finishing in 7.17. 
  • Jon Kelm was Northwood's best placer in both the long jump and 200m race. Kelm covered 6.82m during the long jump, placing second while running a 23.00 200m race to take 16th. 

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Northwood's freshmen duo of Kelsey Hansen (15.99m) and Emily Stinson (15.41m) went one and two in the weight throw. Hansen's PR moves her to fifth all-time on NU's top performers list. 
  • Hansen later won the shot put, putting up almost a one meter PR with a 13.70m NCAA Provo mark on her final throw. She has the 28th-best toss in DII this season and is third on NU's all-time shot put list. 
  • Stinson also took third in the shot put with a 12.35m toss.
  • Keiyera Johnson improved her PR in the 60m hurdles by .05 seconds. Johnson (9.52) was one of three Timberwolves in the prelims, including Jenna Gaul (9.76) and Gabby Jones (9.78).
  • Taylor Hopkins took on her first 3000m race for the Timberwolves. The sophomore wound up taking eighth with a 10:11.28 finish. This makes her fourth-best in NU's all-time event book.
  • The women's DMR team of Katherine Haupt, Brooklyn Wolcott, Ariel Warner, and Sarah Zehr took second at 12:23.44. This ranks third in NU history for the event.
  • Riley Hacker also jumped into Northwood's top 10 for the 3000m. She is now tenth with a 10:41.64 PR finish.

UP NEXT

  • Track & field is back on the track next Saturday (February 3) for the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
