Track & Field Travels To Rochester To Compete At Oakland

OVERVIEW 

MEET: GOLDEN GRIZZLIES INVITATIONAL

LOCATION: ROCHESTER, MICH. - OAKLAND

RECAP: Northwood track & field traveled to Rochester, Mich. to compete at the Golden Grizzlies Invite hosted by Oakland (April 6).

INSIDE THE MEET

FOR THE MEN 

  • Sebastian Tesch won the hammer throw competition with a 61.46m toss on his fourth attempt.
  • Arthur Powell IV placed third overall in the 100m dash, running a personal record (PR) of 10.83.
  • Matheu Morrison (14.27 PR) and Blake Vier (14.51) took the top two spots in the 110m hurdles. Morrison's mark is t-5th on NU's top performers list for the 110m hurdles.
  • Thomas Heslip took third in the 400m. Heslip finished in 49.65 to lead the Timberwolves.
  • In the 800m, Preston Earl finished in 1:55.30 to give the Timberwolves a second place finish.
  • Carson Laney led all Timberwolves in the 1500m race. His PR of 3:59.88 gave Northwood a top-10 finish in 10th.
  • Lucas Oberle's 9:37.79 finish in the 3000m steeplechase also gave NU a sixth place finish.
  • The men's 4x100 relay race was won by Northwood's "A" squad of Powell IV, Vier, Morrison, and Jon Kelm.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Keiyera Johnson became just the third NU hurdler in program history to run a sub-16-second 100m hurdles. Johnson's 15.98 mark is a new PR and is now third on NU's all-time performer's list.
  • Molly Kitson took 10th overall with a 1:01.30 finish in the 400m race.
  • Ariel Warner moved into ninth on NU's all-time performer list with a 2:21.95 PR during the 800m race. She was NU's highest placer at 13th during the race.
  • In the 1500m, Sarah Zehr placed seventh with a 4:48.25 PR. Zehr is moved to eighth on NU's top performer list.
  • Kelsey Hansen and Emily Stinson competed in the throws.
  • Hansen placed sixth in discus (41.38m), 11th in the hammer throw (38.91m), and second in the shot put (13.95m PR). Hansen's shot mark is second in program history.
  • Stinson placed ninth in discus (37.21m) and eighth in the hammer (42.56m).

  • Northwood track & field will utilize split squads next weekend as team members compete at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic (April 12-14) and at the Tiffin Track Carnival (April 12-13).
