Track & Field Earns Six All-Conference Athletes At G-MAC Outdoor Championships

OVERVIEW 

MEET: G-MAC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

LOCATION:  HILLDALE, MICH.

RECAP: Northwood track & field competed at the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Outdoor Championships Wednesday through Friday (May 1-3). The women's team took eighth overall with 16 points while the men took sixth with 66. Findlay's men (189 points) and women (194.5 points) were crowned conference champions as a team during the meet. Overall, Northwood had five athletes earn All-Conference honors during the meet by placing top three in an individual event.

INSIDE THE MEET

FOR THE MEN

  • Jon Kelm won his first career G-MAC Championship with a 7.69m leap during the long jump event. His mark is No. 7 in DII this season and he cleared the NCAA Provisional mark by 39cm. The win gave NU 10 team points. Kelm also took seventh in the triple jump with a 13.87m leap, adding two more team points.
  • Dillan Haviland won his second outdoor 1500m G-MAC title. His 3:46.64 mark was a season-best and No. 26 in DII this year. His title gave the Timberwolves 10 team points.
  • Sebastian Tesch was Northwood's first scorer of the event, taking eight points with a second-place finish and a record-breaking toss of 67.17m. His previous program record was 65.67m. His toss is No. 4 in DII this season and No. 21 in DII history.
  • Blake Vier (14.26) and Matheu Morrison (14.26) earned podium finishes in the 110m hurdles. Vier was second and Morrison third.
  • In the discus competition, freshman Luke Eros took silver with a 46.97m toss on his second attempt. His eight points added with Tesch's one by taking eighth with a 43.16m throw gave NU nine points.
  • Todd Henley and Sam Smith scored five combined points for the Timberwolves in the 10K. Henley took fifth with a 31:34.66 finish and Smith took eighth with a 31:42.96 finish. Smith is now seventh on NU's all-time list.
  • NU's 4x100m relay team of Arthur Powell IV, Blake Vier, Andrew Braman, and Jon Kelm placed fourth with a 41.42 finish, earning five points for the Timberwolves.
  • Powell IV also took sixth in the 100m dash, finishing in 10.84 to collect three points.
  • Northwood had six men earn all-conference honors. Kelm and Haviland earned First Team honors, Tesch, Eros, and Vier earned Second Team, and Morrison earned Third Team.
  • Northwood's men's team finished with 66 points to earn a sixth place finish in the conference. 

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Sarah Zehr was Northwood's first scorer for the women, taking fourth in the 10k to earn five points. Her 37:08.57 PR puts her third on NU's all-time 10K list. Zehr added two more points with an 18:08.03 5K, taking seventh.
  • Gabby Jones placed fifth in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 1:04.27 and earning four points for Northwood.
  • Keiyera Johnson reset her program record 100m hurdles, finishing in 15.36 during the prelims, she placed 12th overall.
  • NU's 4x100 relay team of Keiyera Johnson, Jenna Gaul, Vivian Williams, and Molly Kitson scored three points for a sixth-place finish in 49.30.
  • In the 4x400 relay, Northwood took seventh in 4:03.62 behind the Johnson, Ariel Warner, Nava Sanocki, and Molly Kitson team.
  • Emily Stinson placed 11th in the hammer throw, breaking the 50m mark for the first time with a 50.71m PR on her third attempt. She is fourth on NU's all-time list with that mark.
  • Northwood's women's team finished with 16 total points to place eighth overall.
