Track & Field Visits University Center And Ypsilanti For A Duo Of Meets
OVERVIEW – Doug Hansen Open / Bob Parks Memorial Meet
LOCATION: Saginaw Valley St. – University Center, Mich. / Eastern Mich. – Ypsilanti, Mich.
RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field competed at a duo of meets this weekend (January 24-25). A few athletes competed at the Doug Hansen Open hosted by SVSU Friday before most athletes went to the Bob Parks Memorial Meet Saturday.
INSIDE THE MEET
BOB PARKS MEMORIAL MEET
FOR THE MEN
- Will Nemecek took the shot put crown once again with a 17.92m toss. The mark cleared the NCAA Provisional mark of 16.4m. Also in the shot, Omari Hairston took seventh with a 15.55m toss on his first attempt.
- Luke Eros placed second in the weight throw with an 18.91m toss on his second attempt. Two of his attempts cleared the NCAA provisional mark of 18.2m.
- In the 60-meter competition, Arthur Powell IV led all Timberwolves with a 7.01 personal record (PR) to qualify for the finals. Teammate Carson Daniel also qualified with a 7.12 mark during prelims. Powell IV went on to win with a 7.04 finish in the finals, with Daniel placing third with a 7.14.
- Blake Vier (8.12), Matheu Morrison (8.14), and Owen Hager (8.51) finished third, fourth, and eighth in the 60-meter hurdles, respectively. During prelims, Hager set his new PR at 8.50, which is tied for ninth best in program history.
- Michael Cook moved into tenth in program history for his 36.84 mark in the 300m race.
FOR THE WOMEN
- Breanna Hyde hit a big PR with a 5.43m leap in the women's long jump. Hyde's mark gave her a fourth-place finish as well as jumped her into fourth all-time in Northwood history. She sits with the third best mark in the G-MAC this season.
- Kelsey Hansen took fourth overall with a 13.68m toss. Her mark cleared the NCAA Provisional mark of 13.67m.
- Vivian Williams set a new PR in the women's 60m prelims. Her 8.23 mark gave her a 16th-place finish.
- Keiyera Johnson placed eighth overall in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 9.58. Johnson was also the Timberwolves' top finisher in the 300m race, taking fifth overall in 43.34.
- Nava Sanocki (44.38), Brooklyn Wolcott (44.98), Jenna Gaul (45.38 PR), and Williams (45.41) were Northwood's other top 300-meter finishers, taking seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth place, respectively.
DOUG HANSEN OPEN
FOR THE MEN
- Nolan Nixon was the lone competitor for the Timberwolves. He placed second in the men's mile with a 4:29.88 finish.
FOR THE WOMEN
- Kaylee Locke won the women's 400m race with a 1:00.79 finish. She was also the lone competitor for the Timberwolves on the women's side.
