Eros Hits 20 Meters As Timberwolves Track & Field Competes At Big Meet

OVERVIEW – BIG MEET - FRIDAY

LOCATION: Grand Valley St. – Allendale, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field teams competed at Grand Valley St.'s annual Friday Big Meet (February 14). Six Timberwolves athletes created new personal records (PRs), including Luke Eros, who joined an elite group of Northwood athletes in the weight throw.

INSIDE THE MEET

FOR THE MEN

  • Luke Eros became just the fourth Timberwolf ever to hit the 20m mark in the men's weight throw. The sophomore hit 20m on the dot during his first toss of the weight throw invite, earning a third place finish. His mark improved his eighth-ranked NCAA Provisional mark in DII this season
  • For the second straight week, Blake Vier took the 60m hurdles title. The junior finished in 7.95 during the finals to win the contest. Vier was the lone Timberwolf to clear the NCAA Provisional Mark.
  • Diogo Vaz bested his career mark in the 400m, moving up to third in school history with a 48.59 finish. He placed 10th overall with what is the 75th-best time in NCAA DII this season.
  • Caleb Palmreuter upped his PR in the men's mile. The freshman's 4:15.42 finish is 10th-best in program history.
  • In the shot put invite, Will Nemecek placed third with an NCAA Provisional throw of 17.73m. 
  • Arthur Powell IV took fourth in the men's 200m early section, finishing in 22.63.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Rachael Sierakowski ran in section five of the women's 5K. She ended her race with an 18:28.75 PR to move into ninth all-time for the Timberwolves program.
  • Ariel Warner continued to set new PRs. For the third straight week, Warner has set a new PR in the event she competed. This week, it was the mile where she ran a 5:04.92, placing 14th with the fifth-best time in program history.
  • In section three of the women's 5K, Sarah Zehr moved up Northwood's 5K list with a 17:45.23 PR finish. She is now fourth all-time with the fourth best time in the G-MAC and 67th amongst DII marks this season.
  • Kelsey Hansen cleared a season best of 15.88m in the women's weight throw. The toss ranks 88th amongst DII athletes this season.

  • Northwood men's and women's track & field head to Saginaw Valley St.'s Tune-Up Friday (February 21), the last competition before the Great Midwest Indoor Championships at Ashland on February 28.
