Track & Field Spends Day In West Michigan Competing At GVSU's Extra Weekend Meet

OVERVIEW – GVSU EXTRA WEEKEND MEET

LOCATION: Grand Valley St. – Allendale, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field competed at GVSU's Extra Weekend Meet Saturday (April 26).

INSIDE THE MEET

FOR THE MEN

  • Diogo Vaz placed fifth in the men's 400m open, finishing just off his PR at 48.39. He was fifth amongst 31 athletes competing in the event.
  • Michael Cook earned fifth place in the 400m hurdles, clocking a 56.52 finish for the blue and white.
  • Tyler Marrogy became the sixth NU athlete ever to break the 50m threshold in the discus. His new PR is now 50.92m, which gave him fifth overall in the event, the No. 5 mark in program history, and the 40th-best toss in DII this season.
  • Northwood performed well in the men's shot put yet again, behind new career bests from Will Nemecek (17.77m) and Omari Hairston (15.41m). The duo took third and seventh overall, improving their program record book marks with the No. 13 and No. 92 best tosses in DII this season.
  • Carson Daniel placed seventh in the men's 100m open, finishing in 10.89, just ahead of teammate Arthur Powell IV, who took tenth in 10.97.

 FOR THE WOMEN

  • Keiyera Johnson took fourth in the women's 100m hurdles. The sophomore finished in 15.28.
  • Brooklyn Wolcott's 1:00.83 mark in the women's 400m open was good enough for eighth. The time was just off her PR.
  • For the fifth straight week, Kelsey Hansen set another PR in the hammer throw. Her 55.36m mark improves her NCAA provisional mark, which is now No. 22 in DII this season. She also produced a new career best in the discus, clearing 45.49m, the 45th-best mark in DII this season.
  • Jenna Gaul and Breanna Hyde also placed within the top 10 of their respective events. Gaul took seventh in the 400m hurdles with a 1:07.86 finish while Hyde took eighth in the women's long jump with a clearance of 5.36m.
  • Kaylee Locke (2:16.46) improved her career-best mark in the women's 800m. The mark is No. 5 in program history.
  • Katherine Haupt ran a season best time of 4:46.21 in the women's 1500m invitational, taking 23rd overall.

UP NEXT

  • Northwood men's and women's track & field heads to the Great Midwest Outdoor Track & Field Championships April 30-May 2 at Ashland next week. The meet will be held at the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex: Ferguson Field in Ashland, Ohio.
