Women's Basketball Earns 75-66 Road Win Over Lake Superior State

The Northwood University women's basketball team earned a 75-66 road win over Lake Superior State Saturday afternoon (February 9).

Northwood improves to 11-12 overall, 9-8 in the GLIAC.  Lake State falls to 5-16 overall, 4-13 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves used a 17-6 run to open up a 24-13 lead with 7:17 remaining in the first half.  LSSU fought back to cut the lead to 26-23, but Northwood scored 10 points in the final two minutes thanks in large part to eight fast-break points.  That run put the Timberwolves up 36-23 at the break. NU shot 45.7 percent from the floor (16-35) while holding LSSU to 26.1 percent (6-23).

Northwood extended its run to 15-0 early in the second half to open up its biggest lead of the game at 41-23.  The Lakers fought back to cut the lead to 58-52 with 8:42 remaining, but Northwood responded with a 9-2 run to go back up 67-54.  LSSU got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

For the game, Northwood finished at 41.9 percent from the floor (26-62) compared to Lake Superior State at 34.7 percent (17-49).  The Lakers used the foul line to stay in the game, converting on 28-32 attempts compared to Northwood at 18-26.  Northwood finished the game with 21 assists and just eight turnovers while LSSU had nine assists and 12 turnovers.

Four Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by freshmen Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) and Jordyn Nurenberg (St. John's, Mich.).  They each finished with 14 points.  Kaitlin Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Byron Center) and Rachel Church (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek) each added 10.

Northwood will travel to Ferris State Thursday night (February 14).  Game time is set for 8 p.m.
