Women's Basketball Loses 74-63 At Quincy

The Northwood Unviersity women's basketball team dropped a 74-63 con­test to Quincy Saturday afternoon (November 23).

The game was the finale of the Quincy Subway Tip-Off Tournament.

Northwood is now 2-2 on the season, having lost on the road to the two GLVC preseason division favorites (Lewis and Quincy). Quincy improves to 3-0 on the year with the win.

Quincy got off to a fast start in the game, jumping out to an early 11 point lead.  But Northwood was the better team for the rest of the half, eventually taking a 31-30 lead at halftime.  The Timberwolves finished the half at 39.3 percent from the floor (11-28) while Quincy shot 38.2 percent (13-34).  NU earned the lead thanks to out-scoring QU 7-2 from the foul line.

The Hawks took their first lead of the second half at 36-34 and would not trail the rest of the way. Northwood was down 47-44 when Quincy posted a 9-0 run to make the score 56-44. The Timberwolves got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

For the game, Northwood shot 36.1 percent (22-61) overall and 6-21 from 3-point range (28.6 percent). Quincy finished at 48.3 percent (28-58), thanks to shooting 62.5 percent in the second half (15-24).  The Hawks were 5-18 from 3-point range (27.8 percent). Quincy finished with a 41-36 edge in rebounding overall.

Four Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by junior point guard Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.). She turned in a strong all-around game, finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) finished with 15 points, while Emily Kutch (Freeport, Mich./Lakewood) and Jordyn Nurenburg (St. Johns, Mich.) added 12 & 11 points, respectively.

At the conclusion of the event, Rivette and Robak were each named to the All-Tournament team.

Northwood will return to action December 5 to open up GLIAC play with a home game against Hillsdale.  That contest will get under way at 6 p.m.
