Women's Basketball Loses In Final Moments To Lake Erie 61-59

The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a disappointing 61-59 contest to Lake Erie Saturday afternoon (January 4).

Northwood falls to 5-5 overall, 3-3 in the GLIAC. Lake Erie improves to 6-6 overall, 1-5 in the GLIAC.

A game after struggling on offense at Lake Superior State, Lake Erie had a strong opening 20 minutes.  The Storm, which scored 37 points against LSSU the entire game, scored 37 in the opening half against NU. Lake Erie shot 52.4 percent from the floor (11-21) and 50.0 percent (4-8) from 3-point range in the half to take a 37-33 lead at the break.

Northwood came out strong early taking the lead less than three minutes into the second half.  Lake Erie would not lead again until the 7:26 mark. NU had the ball trailing by two with eight seconds left, but was unable to get off a good shot in the closing moments.

For the game, Northwood finished at 40.5 percent (15-37), while Lake Erie ended at 34.0 percent (16-47).  The Storm used a 40-28 rebounding advantage to post a 13-3 edge in second chance points in the game.  NU, who entered the game shooting 78 percent from the foul line, finished the day 24-37 from the stripe (64.9 percent).

Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) was the lone Timberwolf in double figures, finishing with 11 points.

Northwood will travel to Tiffin Thursday night (January 9). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
