Women's Basketball Loses At Wayne State 85-64

The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped an 85-64 contest at No. 18 Wayne State Thursday night (February 6).

The Timberwolves fall to 10-10 overall, 8-8 in the GLIAC. WSU improves to 18-2 overall, 15-1 in the GLIAC.

Northwood held an early 6-4 lead in the game, but it was all Wayne State the rest of the way. The Warriors led by as many as 19 in the first half before the Timberwolves chipped away at the lead and trailed 47-33 at the break. WSU's offense as the key to their strong start – the Warriors shot 55.6 percent (15-27) in the opening 20 minutes while NU finished at 37.1 percent (13-35).

NU got the lead back down to 10 (61-51) with under 11 minutes remaining in the game, but Wayne State responded once again. The Warriors scored 16 of the next 21 points to break the game open and put the Timberwolves away.

For the game, Northwood finished at 30.0 percent from the floor (21-70) while Wayne State connected on 52.5 percent (31-59) of their shots.  WSU also out-rebounded the Timberwolves 54-34. NU did do a good job taking care of the ball, committing a season-low seven turnovers.

Two Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.) with 14. Sarah Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Byron Center) added 12.

Northwood returns home to face Lake Superior State Saturday (February 8). Game time is set for 1 p.m.
