Women's Basketball Falls To Northern Michigan 56-46

The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a 56-46 contest to Northern Michigan Saturday night (February 22).

Northwood falls to 13-12 overall, 11-10 in the GLIAC. NMU improves to 18-7 overall, 15-6 in the GLIAC.

The Wildcats scored the first two points of the game and would lead the rest of the way. The majority of the half was tight, with NMU's biggest lead standing at five points until the final moments. NMU connected on two 3-pointers in the final 1:06 to earn a 30-22 lead at the break. Northwood shot just 29.2 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes (7-24).

NU's offense struggled after the break as well, connecting on just 5-24 attempts (20.8 percent).  The Wildcats extended their lead to as many as 19 down the stretch to put the game away.

Overall, Northwood just 25.0 percent from the floor (12-48). NMU finished at 39.6 percent overall (21-53). The Wildcats also finished with  an 14-9 edge in offensive rebounds. Northwood did shoot the ball well at the foul line, going 19-22 overall (86.4 percent).

Emily Kutch (Freeport, Mich./Lakewood) led Northwood with nine points.

Northwood will travel to Saginaw Valley State Thursday night (February 27). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
