Women's Basketball Falls At Northern Michigan In GLIAC Quarterfinals 82-64

The Northwood University women's basketball team saw its 2013-14 season come to an end with an 82-64 loss at Northern Michigan in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals Wednesday night (March 5).

NU ends its season 14-13 overall. Northern Michigan improves to 20-7 with the win.

The Wildcats led by seven points early on, but Northwood rallied back to take the lead. The Timberwolves eventually led by as many as four points and was up 26-23 with less than four minutes remaining in the half when NMU made a run. The Wildcats scored the final 10 points of the half to take a 33-26 lead to the break. The Timberwolves struggled from the floor in the opening half, shooting 28.1 percent overall (9-32) while going 0-10 from 3-point range.

Northern Michigan got off to a fast start in the second half, opening up a 51-36 lead with less than 14 minutes remaining. The Wildcats eventually led by as many as 21 while not allowing Northwood to get any closer than 12 in the final in the 10 minutes. Northwood's offense improved in the second half, shooting 42.4 percent from the floor (14-33). But NMU's offense was even better, shooting 63.6 percent from the floor (14-22).

For the game, Northwood finished at 35.4 percent (23-65) from the floor while Northern Michigan connected on 53.3 percent (24-45). The 3-point line was a big part of the game, as NMU finished 5-10 from beyond the arc (50.0 percent) while Northwood went 1-20 (5.0 percent).

Four Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by junior Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.) with 20 points. Emily Kutch (Freeport, Mich./Lakewood), Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) and Sarah Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Byron Center) all finished with 12.

Northwood returns its top 12 scorers for the 2014-15 season.
