ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a 71-47 contest at Grand Valley State Saturday night (January 23).
Northwood falls to 10-8 overall, 6-6 in the GLIAC. GVSU improves to 14-4 overall, 9-3 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves scored the first five points of the game, but it was all Lakers the remainder of the first quarter. GVSU eventually opened up a 20-11 lead after one quarter and a 33-19 lead at halftime. Northwood shot just 28.6 percent from the floor in the half (8-28) while Grand Valley State shot 48.1 percent (13-27).
The Lakers came out strong in the third quarter to put the game away. GVSU opened up a lead as big as 28 in the quarter (53-25). NU fought back to cut the lead to 20 at the start of the fourth quarter (53-33), but that is as close as the Timberwolves would get.
For the game, Norhtwood finished at 37.7 percent from the floor (20-53). NU went 3-15 from 3-point range (14.3 percent) and 4-8 from the foul line (50.0). GVSU finished with a 33-29 edge in rebounding for the game.
Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns, Mich.) led the way for Northwood, picking up her 14th double-double in 18 games. She finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) added nine points.
Northwood will host Michigan Tech Thursday night (January 28). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
