Women's Soccer Drop 2-0 Loss At Michigan Tech

The Northwood University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest to Michigan Tech Sunday afternoon (October 13).

Northwood falls to 3-6-1 overall, 3-5 in the GLIAC. With the win, Michigan Tech improves to 8-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the GLIAC. 

The Michigan Tech Huskies established pressure early, with the first score of the game at 10:57. The goal was a result of a successful corner kick headed into the back of the net. The Huskies continued to dominate play, adding ten more shots in the first half. Northwood was unable to connect on their two shots, both off the foot of Jessica Flores (Tujunga, Calif. / Verdugo Hills), in the first 45 minutes to go into halftime down 1-0.

The Huskies added 12 more shots in the second half, netting their final goal in the 67th minute on a penalty kick. NU was unable to generate any offense in the second half, not taking a single shot or corner kick in the final 45 minutes.

For the match, Michigan Tech held the advantage in shots (23-2), including shots on goal (11-2), and corner kicks (5-0). Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkley) recorded a season-high nine saves.

Northwood will travel to Ferris State for a rescheduled, non-conference match on Tuesday (October 15). Match time is set for 4 p.m.
