Women's Soccer Drops 5-2 Contest At Ferris State

The Northwood University women's soccer team fell at Ferris State 5-2 on Sunday afternoon (October 12).

The Timberwolves fall to 1-9-1 overall, 0-7 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs are now 3-6-2 on the year, 2-4-1 in the GLIAC.

NU fell behind early, as Ferris State netted the first goal of the match in under three minutes. The Bulldogs netted another goal with less than a minute remaining in the opening half. Ferris State was able to get off 13 shots in the opening period, along with four corner kicks. Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkley) recorded eight saves in the first half.

The Bulldogs put another goal on the board before the Timberwolves were able to fight back in the 70th minute. Senior Melissa Seymour (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) took a deep shot that went over the keeper's arm and into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. In the 88th minute, Seymour recorded her second goal. Samantha Cook (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon East) registered five saves in the closing period.

For the match, Seymour finished with two goals, while Deanna Martin (Everett, Mich. / Everett) registered two shots on goal. Allison Carroll (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc) and Samantha Medici each recorded a shot on goal in the match. Ferris State held the advantage in shots (29-11) and corner kicks (7-2).  Northwood was the more aggressive team with 13 total fouls, to just eight for the Bulldogs.
