Women's Soccer Announces 2023 Season Schedule

MIDLAND, MICH. - Northwood women's soccer announced its 2023 schedule on Tuesday (June 6). The schedule includes 18 regular season games with 14 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matches.

Following just their second back-to-back 10-win season and first since 1998-99, the Timberwolves open their season with four non-conference matches, including DI foe to start the season, Lewis (August 31), Ferris State (September 3), Toledo (September 7), and Indianapolis (September 10). The Timberwolves finished third in the regular-season standings, picking up nine conference wins, the most in program history.

Three teams on the schedule qualified for the 2022 NCAA tournament, including G-MAC regular-season champion, Cedarville, G-MAC Tournament champion, Ashland, and NCAA DII tournament semi-finalist Ferris State. Northwood will host eight home matches while visiting 10 away venues.

First-year Head Coach, Mike Korhonen, is excited to get started. He expressed, "I can't wait to get the season started." Korhonen took over head coaching duties this summer.

NU returns multiple starters from last season, including two All-Conference honorees in Carly Boyd (third team) and Brooke Honeycutt (first team). The Timberwolves also bring back veteran players in forward Juliana Paoletti, defender Hannah Jatczak, and midfielder Katie Foster. Paoletti (28 career goals) could become just the sixth player in program history to score 30 career goals.

Korhonen spoke about his returnees and schedule, "As you can see, we opted for a tough non-conference schedule to prepare us for a grueling G-MAC season. We have returned a great deal of our attacking firepower from last year, which averaged the second most goals per game in the conference, and are excited for the growth of our returning players and are excited by our incoming additions for our freshmen and transfers. Our goal is to build on our third-place finish from a year ago."

The Timberwolves' slate starts on August 31 against Lewis in Midland for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
