Korhonen Named G-MAC Coach Of The Year - Women's Soccer Has Three Athletes Earn All-Conference Honors

MIDLAND, MICH. – Northwood women's soccer earned numerous honors from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) post season awards Wednesday (November 8). 

Michael Korhonen was named G-MAC Coach of the Year, following the Timberwolves' first-ever conference regular season title.

The team had three All-Conference representatives honored as well. Seniors, Hannah Jatczak (Essexville, Mich.) and Juliana Paoletti (Monroe, Mich.) earned First Team honors while junior Sydney Rizo (Harrison Twp., Mich.) earned Second Team.

Korhonen is the first coach in program history to earn Coach of the Year honors. Northwood finished the regular season 13-3-2 overall and 12-1-1 in the G-MAC. Women's soccer currently sits at 14-3-2, awaiting the semifinals of the G-MAC tournament.

Paoletti earns her second All-Conference honor of her career (2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention). Northwood's forward led the team in goals (8) and points (18) this season. Within the conference, she led in shots (54), was fourth in goals, and fourth in points.

Northwood cornerstones on the back line Jatczak and Rizo gave the Timberwolves a chance in every match. Both players added their first career goals via penalty kicks. Jatczak was named G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week for week six on October 9. The defenders have led the Timberwolves to seven shutouts this season and currently hold a program record .95 goals-against average this season. 

Women's soccer is set to play host for the remainder of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tournament following their quarterfinal win over Ohio Dominican on Saturday (November 4). The G-MAC tournament resumes Thursday (November 9) with the semis followed by the final on Saturday (November 11) at Dean Field in Midland.

The No. 1 Timberwolves advanced to play No. 4 Findlay on Thursday with the match time beginning at 10:30 a.m. No. 2 Ashland and No. 3 Cedarville will face off following NU's match at 1:30 p.m. at Dean Field. Northwood faced the Oilers just two weeks ago (October 26) in Findlay, Ohio. Northwood won that matchup, 1-0.
