RECAP: Women's soccer played in their first-ever NCAA Tournament match Thursday (November 16) versus Cedarville in the round of 56 in Ashland, Ohio. The Yellow Jackets outlasted the Timberwolves in double overtime, 3-2.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood jumped out to the early lead with Brooke Honeycutt's long cross from deep in the left corner. Carly Boyd was the beneficiary, scoring off the pass in the lower right corner in the 5'.
  • Late in the first half, the Yellow Jackets scored the equalizer in the 37' off a free kick from the left side and a deflected ball in the box.
  • At the half, Northwood had the edge 8-6 in shots and a 1-0 lead in corner opportunities.
  • Moving to the 57', a Timberwolves throw-in by Boyd put Honeycutt on the move at the top of the key. She scored, weaving past a Yellow Jacket defender and a diving goalkeeper to score easily in the right corner.
  • The Yellow Jackets would not go away easily. CU tied it back up 2-2 in the 69'.
  • Teams fought to an end-of-regulation draw, so two overtime periods were in order. At the end of regulation, NU and CU were statistically identical with 15 shots apiece, nine on goal, and two corners.
  • Three minutes into the first overtime period, Cedarville added offensive pressure. CU's pressure created just enough opportunity to take the lead in the 93'.
  • Cedarville outlasted Northwood for the remainder of the two overtime periods, taking the match 3-2.
