Women's Soccer Appears At No. 6 In Initial Midwest Regional Rankings

MIDLAND, MICH. - The Northwood women's soccer team (11-2-5, 9-2-3 G-MAC) appeared at No. 6 in the first set of NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings for the 2024 NCAA DII Women's Soccer Tournament released Wednesday (November 6).

Other teams inside the regional rankings include conference members No. 3 nationally, Ashland at No. 2, and Cedarville at No. 9. No. 8 nationally, Maryville is the region's top seed, with Ashland and No. 19 nationally, Grand Valley St. rounding out the top three. 

Northwood is set to host a G-MAC tournament quarterfinal match for the third consecutive season on Saturday (November 9). The three-seed Timberwolves play host to sixth-seed Malone at Dean Field. Northwood and Malone will kick off at Noon. The match is the second battle between the programs this season. Northwood took the first match 1-0 at Malone on October 26, outshooting the Pioneers 21-2.

56 teams will qualify for this year's NCAA Tournament, with the top seven teams from the Midwest Region earning a berth. In regions with seven berths, like the Midwest, the No. 2 seed will play the No. 7 seed in the first round. In regions with eight berths, the first-round matchups will be the No. 1 seed versus No. 8 seed and No. 4 seed versus No. 5 seed. Postseason action of the NCAA tournament will begin on November 21-23, with the first and second rounds on 16 different campuses across the United States. The two top-seeded teams in each region shall be offered the opportunity to host, provided minimum site selection criteria are met and a bid has been submitted.
