Tennis Teams Earn Honors From Great Midwest Athletic Conference

2023 G-MAC All-CONFERENCE TEAMS

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's and women's tennis programs were well-represented on the All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) teams, which were announced at the league tournament Thursday (April 20).

On the women's side, Rafaella Fulop was named to the First Team, while Rafaella Platsiota was placed on the Second Team. Leon Grundstrom earned First Team honors, while Max Wild was slotted on the Second Team.

This is the third time Fulop has earned All-Conference honors, claiming First Team All-GLIAC a year ago as well as Second Team All-GLIAC in 2021. Fulmp has six wins overall in singles and has gone 3-3 in conference play. Her record in doubles with Platsiota at the No. 1 position is 9-8 overall, which includes a 5-2 mark in conference action.

Platsiota also earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors last season. She has played at the top singles and doubles position for the Timberwolves this year, entering postseason play with 14 total wins. She has gone 4-3 in singles and 5-2 in doubles this season for Northwood.

Trystan was one of the top doubles players in the conference, teaming with Ekaterina Vorobeva to go 11-7 overall (7-1 in the GLIAC) from the No. 1 position. She also went 12-8 overall (7-1 GLIAC) in singles from mainly the No. 5 position.

Grundstrom earns All-Conference honors for the second time in his career, as he was named First Team All-GLIAC a year ago. He was one of the top players in conference play in the G-MAC this season, going 6-1 in conference play at the No. 1 position. He also posted a combined conference record of 6-1 in doubles this season, mostly from the No. 1 position.

Wild was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC a year ago. This season, he has gone 4-3 in G-MAC play singles play, mainly from the No. 2 position. Wild has also gone 4-3 in G-MAC doubles as well from a variety of spots in the lineup.

Both the men's and women's teams are competing in the G-MAC Tournament, starting Thursday (April 20). The women's team is facing Walsh in the opening round, while the men are taking on Findlay.
