The Northwood University track and field teams sent a pair of seniors to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships.

Danielle Miller (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Fraser) represented Northwood in the 5,000 meter run Friday afternoon (March 14). Miller finished in fifth place with a new career best 17:14.00 to earn All American Honors - the top eight finishers are named All American. The senior entered the race as the 14th best time in the country, despite recently winning the GLIAC Indoor Championships at Hillsdale on March 2. Miller ran her qualifying time of 17:15.21 at the GVSU Big Meet Invite on Feb. 14.

Earlier on Friday, Madison Pines (Troy, Mich. / Troy) competed in the preliminary round of the mile run. The top two finishers in each heat plus next five best times advance to finals on Saturday. Pines finished sixth in the second heat with a time of 4:59.39. Her time was good for 11th overall. Emily Oren, of Hillsdale, ran 4:56.89 for the top qualifying spot entering the final round. Pines also earned the Elite 89 honors for the second year in a row. The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.

The Timberwolves open the outdoor season with a Timberwolf Intrasquad on March 29.
