Track Teams Compete At Al Owens Classic

The Northwood University track and field teams competed at Grand Valley State's Al Owens Classic on Saturday (April 19).

For the men, the Timberwolves placed 6th out of 25 teams - with 32 points. Grand Valley was the overall winner with 171.5 points, followed by Central Michigan at 60.5. The team of Rayvaun Tyler (Orlando, Fla. / Oak Ridge ), Korvon Harris (Detroit, Mich. / Northwestern), Josh Gardner (Howell, Mich.) and Jacob Hurrell (Cadillac, Mich.) earned a first place finish in the 4x100 meter relay, with a time of 41.93. Marcus Rogers (Howell, Mich. / Pinckney) came in second in the 3000 meter steeplechase, clocking 9:42.78. Two Timberwolves earned points in the 100 meter dash, as Harris took fourth (11.06) and Tyler earned eighth (11.21). Registering sixth in the 400 meters was Hurrell at 50.15.

The women's team placed 15th overall with 13.5 points, out of 22 teams. Grand Valley State was the overall winner with 149.25 points, followed by Northern Michigan with 92. Two women earned points for the Timberwolves. Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich.) finished third in the long jump, registering a jump of 5.26 meters. In the 400 meter dash, Marsadie Cinato (Warren, Mich. / Woods Tower) ran 59.63 for a fifth place finish.

Northwood will compete in the Gina Relays at Hillsdale College next weekend (April 24-26).
