Indoor Track & Field Teams Compete At Doug Hansen Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – The Northwood University indoor track and field teams competed in the Doug Hansen Open at Saginaw Valley State University on Friday afternoon (January 23).

No team scoring was taken in the meet, which featured athletes from Northwood, Saginaw Valley State, Lake Superior State, Northern Michigan, University of Michigan, Central Michigan, Siena Heights, Western Ontario and Indiana Tech.

Four Timberwolves represented Northwood in the finals of the 60 meter dash. Sophomore Rayvaun Tyler (Orlando, Fla. / Oak Ridge) led NU with a time of 7.06 for fourth place. Senior Marcus Johnson (Center, Tx. / Center (NU-Texas)) was right behind in fifth place at 7.07, while Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges(NU-TX)) ran a 7.21 to finish seventh. Jon Thompson(Albuquerque, N. Mex. / NU-Texas) earned fifth in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.79 meters. Taking eighth in the 200 meter dash was Josh Gardner (Howell, Mich.) with a time of 22.46. After setting the fieldhouse record to start the indoor season (December 5, 2014), senior Wally Clay (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Flint Southwestern) took eleventh in the 400 meter dash at 49.95. The men's 400 meter relay team, consisting of Johnson, Tray Thompson (Fort Worth, Tx. / Duncanville (NU-Texas)), Wilchcombe and Karmine Jarmon (Chicago, Ill. / Simeon) took second with a time of 3:20.69.

For the women, junior Hunter Perry (Moran, Mich. / Rudyard) led NU in the weight throw with a mark of 13.50 meters, good for fifth place. Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) represented the Timberwolves in the 3,000 meter run earning ninth place with a time of 11:13.25. Freshman Dana Turner (Maywood, Ill. / Walther Lutheran) jumped 5.03 meters in the women's long jump for eleventh place.

The Timberwolves travel to Geneva, Ohio for the NCAA Division II Challenge on Feb. 6
