Track & FIeld Teams Earn Numerous Strong Performances At Bill Clinger Classic

OVERVIEW – GVSU BILL CLINGER CLASSIC

LOCATION: Allendale, Mich. – Grand Valley State University

RECAP: Northwood track & field teams each had numerous strong performances at the GVSU Bill Clinger Classic Friday night (January 17).

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • Northwood was the top-scoring team in the event, finishing with 72 points. Windsor was second at 57.50. A total of 17 teams took part in the event.
  • The Timberwolves sprint crew had a big night, highlighted by Northwood posting three of the top four finishers in the 60 meter dash. Mason Phillips placed first overall with an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 6.85. Xzavia Price was second at 6.88, which places him sixth on the NU All-Time performers list. Christopher Bent was fourth at 6.94.
  • Bent went on to earn a win of his own in the 200, matching his personal-best with a time of 21.76. That time stands third in school history.
  • Bent and Phillips also teamed up with Price and Josiah Morse to earn a win in the 4X400 meter relay with a time of 3:22.93.
  • Morse also finished second in the 600 with time of 1:19.36. He now ranks second in school history in the event.
  • Hunter Berecz moved to third in school history in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 16.33 meters, which earned the win in the regular event. He also finished fifth in the weight throw at 16.80 meters.
  • Zechariah Stickler was fourth in the shot put at 15.22 maters, which places him fourth on the Northwood All-Time performers list.
  • Austin Hamlet earned a fourth place finish in the triple jump at 13.44 meters, which is good for sixth in school history.
  • Zane Aldrich ran 4:17.57 to place eighth in the mile and put himself eighth in the event in school history.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • The women placed 11th out of 21 teams with 17 points. Northern Illinois was the overall winner at 102 points.
  • Debra Wallace had a big meet for Northwood in the sprints, earning a second place finish in the 200 with a time of 25.06.
  • Wallace also moved to second place in school history in the 400 with a time of 57.79, which was good for sixth place.
  • Jessica Kursinsky claimed a third place finish in the invitational shot put with a toss of 13.33 meters.
  • Jessica Marvin had a toss of 16.51 meters in the invitational weight throw, good for a seventh place finish.
  • Lainey Veenkant (5:16.46) and Madi Brooks (5:19.20) each moved into the top-10 in school history in the mile, with Veekant now standing seventh and Brooks at ninth.

  • The track and field teams will compete in a pair of events next Friday and Saturday (January 24-25), taking part in the Gladstien Invitational at Indiana University and the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational.
