Track & Field Teams Compete At Six Different Last Chance Meets

OVERVIEW – LAST CHANCE WEEK

LOCATION: Allendale, Mich./Hillsdale, Mich./Toledo, Ohio/Cleveland, Tenn./Mount Olive, N.C.

RECAP: A busy week for Northwood track & field finished with the teams competing at six different Last Chance meets.

GVSU TUESDAY LAST CHANCE MEET

  • Travis Schepers picked up a personal-best in the shot put with a toss of 17.00 meters, which tied him for #26 nationally.
  • Hunter Berecz also had a provisional toss in the shot at 16.96 meters.
  • In the hammer throw, Nathan Powers (60.09 meters) and David Kotliarker (55.81 meters) each had NCAA provisional marks.
  • Jessica Kursinsky was the lone women's athlete to compete on the week, finishing fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.50 meters.

HILLSDALE LAST CHANCE CLASSIC

  • Schepers improved on his personal-best from Tuesday with a toss of 17.04 meters in the shot put that places him No. 24 in Division II and was good for second at the meet.
  • Berecz was fifth in the shot at 16.57, which was another NCAA provisional mark.
  • Powers and Kotliarker each had provisional marks  in the hammer once again, with Powers finishing with a toss of 58.86 meters and Kotliarker at 57.61 meters.

LEE LAST CHANCE MEET

  • Zane Aldrich picked up a school record in the 10,000 with a time of 30:00.19, bettering his old mark of 30:11.86.
  • Stephen Barker took over two seconds off his personal-best in the 800 with a time of 1:50.95. That puts him third in Northwood history and ranks him No. 23 in Division II.
  • Josiah Morse also competed in the 800, clocking a 1:52.31.

TOLEDO ROCKET INVITATIONAL

  • Ben Haupt was the lone Timberwolf to compete at this event, placing 10th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 9:42.03

MOUNT OLIVE FIRST CHANCE AND MULTI

  • Mason Phillips competed at two events at Mount Olive, starting with the First Chance and Multi meet Saturday (May 15). He was the winner of the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.47.

MOUNT OLIVE FINAL QUALIFIER

  • Phillips then took part in a separate event on Sunday (May 16), the Final Qualifier. He took home first in the 100 (10.68) and second in the 200 (21.33.).

UP NEXT

  • Northwood will find out the qualifiers for the NCAA Championships Tuesday night (May 18). The championship meet will take place at Grand Valley State May 27-29.
