Track & Field Traveled To Rochester To Compete At The Elaine Leigh Invitational

OVERVIEW 

MEET: Elaine Leigh Invitational

LOCATION: Rochester, Mich. - Oakland

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field competed at the Elaine Leigh Invitational in Rochester, Mich., Thursday and Friday (April 20-21).  

INSIDE THE MEETS – FOR THE MEN

  • Sebastian Tesch got the meet started in the hammer throw on day one. Tesch's set his new personal record (PR) at 58.62 on his fifth throw, following his fourth that also eclipsed the 58m mark. He placed second and moves into fourth in program history and currently has the 21st-best throw in DII this season.
  • David Kotliarker joined Tesch on the podium, taking third in the hammer throw with his best mark of 54.51m.
  • In the shot put, Travis Schepers won the competition by breaking the 17m mark with a 17.20m toss on his first throw of the day. He improved his PR by 16cm and now holds the 20th-best throw in DII this season. His teammate Will Nemecek placed second with a 1.20m toss.
  • Jon Kelm also moved up to ninth on an all-time NU list. Kelm's long jump of 7.11m set a new PR and placed second. Kelm later placed fourth in the 100m with an 11.03 finish for another PR.
  • Xzavia Price took second in the 100m dash with a 10.96 finish.
  • The duo of  Matheu Morrison (14.74) and Blake Vier (15.40) gave Northwood two podium finishes in the 110m hurdles, placing second and third respectfully. Morrison also set a nearly five-second PR in the 400m hurdles finishing at 57.95, taking fifth.
  • Thomas Heslip broke the 50-sec mark again in the 400m, taking fourth at 49.92.

INSIDE THE MEETS – FOR THE WOMEN

  • Lillian Albaugh finished atop the podium in women's shot put with a 12.89m toss. Albaugh also set a new PR in the discus competition. Her 37.09m toss was good enough for fifth place.
  • Molly Kitson finished top 10 following her personal-record-setting performance in the 400m. Kitson placed 10th, finishing in 1:01.15.
  • Kameron Haag set a 14-second PR in the 1500m, finishing 23rd in 4:57.92
  • Alexis Kaanta and Rebecca Hoonhorst competed in the long jump. Kaanta cleared 4.68m, placing 19th, while Hoonhorst cleared 4.26, taking 24th.

UP NEXT

  • Northwood track & field is set to travel to GVSU Friday and Saturday (April 28-29) for the Extra Weekend Meet, their final meet before they gear up for the G-MAC Outdoor Championships at Ashland (May 3-5).
