Track & Field Tunes Up In Western Michigan At Two Meets

OVERVIEW 

MEET: Extra Weekend Meet / Davenport Tune-Up

LOCATION: Allendale, Mich. – Grand Valley St. / Grand Rapids, Mich. - Davenport

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field competed at the Extra Weekend Meet in Allendale, Mich. Saturday (April 29) as well as the Davenport Tune-Up Friday (April 28)  

INSIDE THE MEETS – FOR THE MEN

EXTRA WEEKEND MEET

  • For the second straight week, Sebastian Tesch set a new personal record (PR) in the hammer throw at 59.76 on his sixth and final toss. He placed second, clearing the NCAA mark, and moves into third in program history and currently has the 14th-best throw in DII this season.
  • In the 1500m, Dillan Haviland cleared the NCAA mark, finishing in 3:49.44
  • In the shot put, Travis Schepers cleared the NCAA mark again, hitting 16.97m on his second toss. Schepers placed second in the competition.
  • Jon Kelm and Xzavia Price went 1-2 in the long jump, clearing 6.84m (Kelm) and 6.72m (Price), respectively. Price also placed second in the 100m dash finishing in 11.16.
  • Lucas Oberle set an 11-second PR in the 3000m steeplechase, placing sixth at 9:30.79 and moving into third on NU's all-time list.
  • Brandon Boyd set a new PR in the 1500m with a 3:53.55 finish. He now moves to sixth on the all-time program list
  • Preston Earl (1:54.80) and Elliot Lipe (1:55.52) represented the Timberwolves in the 800m. Lipe's mark was a new PR for the junior.

DAVENPORT TUNE-UP

  • Kelm took home first place in the triple jump at 13.84m. Kelm's mark is a new PR, as he now holds the third-best mark in NU program history.

INSIDE THE MEETS – FOR THE WOMEN

EXTRA WEEKEND MEET

  • Lillian Albaugh finished second on the podium in women's shot put with a 13.48m toss, the 37th-best throw in DII this season. Albaugh also set a new PR in the discus competition for the second week in a row. Her 40.08m toss was good enough for fifth place and was three meters further than her previous mark (37.09m).
  • Gabby Jones' new PR in the 400m hurdles landed her a second-place finish. Her 1:06.19 finish is a team-best this season and fourth-best in program history.
  • In the 200m, Molly Kitson finished in 27.27, giving herself a new PR.
  • Katherine Haupt (2:22.86) and Taylor Hopkins (2:26.32) ran just off their PRs as they finished 24th and 27th respectively in the 800m.

DAVENPORT TUNE-UP

  • Alexis Kaanta won the triple jump competition, matching her PR at 10.28m.
  • Emily Coulter crossed the 36m mark again in the javelin, this time hitting 36.01m. Along with Coulter, Hailey Granata also competed in the event, hitting 30.69m.

  • Northwood track & field is set to gear up for the G-MAC Outdoor Championships at Ashland (May 3-5) starting on Wednesday.
