Track & Field Earns Two Conference Titles At Outdoor Championships

OVERVIEW 

MEET: G-MAC Outdoor Championships

LOCATION: Ashland, Ohio - Ashland

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field traveled to Ashland, Ohio, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Outdoor Championships (May 3-5).

In the team races, Findlay won the women's title with 189.75 points and Tiffin took the men's title with 181 points. Northwood's men's team placed fourth with 97 points while the women's team ended up ninth with 15 points.

INSIDE THE MEETS – FOR THE MEN

  • The Timberwolves showed out in the shotput as they swept the podium finishes. Travis Schepers (17.25m) took the crown, Zechariah Stickler (17.15m) placed second, and Will Nemecek (16.81m) third. Schepers' toss is a new personal record (PR), and he now has the 18th-best toss in DII this season. All three athletes cleared the NCAA provisional mark. 
  • Schepers also took fourth in the discus with a PR of 50.08m, moving into fourth in school history.
  • Dillan Haviland won his second G-MAC title of the calendar year, this in the 1500m. His 3:44.52 finish set a new PR, school, and G-MAC record. His mark is sixth best in DII this season, giving NU 10 points for the meet. 
  • Make it the third straight week Sebastian Tesch has moved up the Northwood hammer throw history list. His new PR of 61.47m on his second toss of flight would clear the NCAA mark and move him into second in program history with the seventh-best throw in DII this season.
  • Jordan Taiwo set a 621-point PR in the decathlon with 5719 points and a fifth place finish. Taiwo set new PRs in – of the 10 events with his best finish being third in the long jump.
  • Xzavia Price (7.18m – long jump), and Jon Kelm (7.12m – long jump) helped NU score seven additional team points with their fifth and sixth-place finishes. Kelm later took fourth with a PR of 13.87m in the triple jump.
  • Josh Jones gave NU two points with his seventh place finish in the 1500m at 3:53.28
  • Haviland and Jones also placed fourth and fifth in the 800m, earning nine points.
  • David Kotliarker also scored some team points for the Timberwolves, taking eighth in the hammer at 54.29m. Northwood totaled nine team points in the hammer throw.
  • Zane Aldrich spearheaded the 10K for the Timberwolves, earning five points with a fourth-place finish at 29:56.53. His mark cleared the NCAA mark and is 45th best in DII this season.
  • Zane (14:43.66) and Brandon Boyd (14:50.67) gave NU seven more points with their fifth and sixth place finishes in the 5K.
  • Lucas Oberle (9:23.58 – 3000m steeplechase) earned seven second PR and gave NU three more points finishing sixth.
  • Matheu Morrison and Blake Vier gave the Timberwolves seven points with Morrison's 14.56 and Vier's 15.05 finishes in the 110m hurdles. Morrison took fifth while Vier placed sixth.

INSIDE THE MEETS – FOR THE WOMEN

  • Emily Coulter's chase for the Northwood javelin record came to an end. She surpassed the previous mark on five of her six throws, including two eclipsing the 40m mark. Her final toss of 41.27m officially made the record hers as she took silver and earned eight team points.
  • In the 10,000m race, Kameron Haag set a 77-second PR, placing sixth, earning three points, and finishing in 37.32.91. This was Haag's first PR of the meet. She later had another in the 5K. She would place seventh, earn two points, and move into third on NU's all-time list with a 17:57.85 finish.
  • Lillian Albaugh took seventh in the shot put, earning the Timberwolves two extra team points. She set a new PR at 13.66m, moving into third on NU's all-time list. 

UP NEXT

  • Northwood track & field will compete at various last-chance qualifiers next week as they try to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Colorado St. – Pueblo (May 25-27).
  • The final list of declarations will be available on ncaa.org by 3 p.m., Monday, May 15.
