Track & Field Competes In At Three Last Chance Qualifiers

OVERVIEW 

MEET: Tuesday Last Chance/ Oakland Last Chance/ Harrison Dillard Twilight

LOCATION: GVSU– Allendale, Mich./ Oakland – Rochester, Mich./ Baldwin Wallace – Berea, Ohio

RECAP: Men's and women's track & field looked to capitalize on a few last-chance meets, hoping to qualify for Nationals this week. The Timberwolves competed at GVSU, Oakland, and Baldwin Wallace.

INSIDE THE MEETS – TUESDAY LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER (May 9)

FOR THE MEN

  • Four days post-G-MAC Championships, Will Nemecek crossed the 17m mark in the shot put. He took second with a 17.01m toss on his final throw, moving him into fifth in program history and 33rd in DII this season.
  • 2023 G-MAC Outdoor Shot Put Champion, Travis Schepers, best throw of 16.52m gave him fifth.
  • Kotliarker had his season-best toss in the hammer throw, hitting 57.45m twice in the event. He now sits with the 33rd-best toss in DII this season.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Lillian Albaugh set a new PR by 1.21m in the discus competition. Her 41.29m final throw moves her into sixth place in program history for the event. She also took sixth in the shot put with a 12.84m mark on her third toss of the meet.

INSIDE THE MEET – OAKLAND LAST CHANCE (May 11)

FOR THE MEN

  • Matheu Morrison had a standout performance in the 110m hurdles, setting a new PR and moving into fifth on NU's all-time list with his 14.38, third place finish.
  • Xzavia Pice (6.87m) and Jon Kelm (6.85m) took seventh and eighth place finishes during the long jump.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Sarah Zehr and Taylor Hopkins ran the 5K for the Timberwolves. Zehr would finish first placing third at 18:10.28 while Hopkins would later take seventh at 19:50.74

INSIDE THE MEETS – HARRISON DILLARD TWILIGHT (May 12)

FOR THE MEN

  • Schepers continued his PR tear in the shot put, resetting his PR for the third time in the last four weeks. Schepers took third with a 17.4m toss which was 18th-best in DII this season, second in school history, and clearing the provisional mark.
  • Nemecek also had a big PR in the shot put. Nemecek's final throw of 17.37 was a 36cm PR. He now moves into third in program history and has the 19th-best throw in DII this season.
  • Sebastian Tesch and Kotliarker both hit the Provo mark in the hammer. Tesch placed fourth with a 58.05m while Kotliarker took fifth with his season-best 57.87m toss.
  • Zane Aldrich cleared the provisional mark in the 5K, just off his school record pace. He finished at 14:21.53, taking third.
  • The trio of Brandon Boyd (3:52.15), Preston Earl (3:53.61), and Elliot Lipe (3:59.93) repped the Timberwolves in the 1500m. Boyd's PR moves him into fourth in NU history. Lipe also set a new PR.
  • Lucas Oberle placed 12th in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 9:35.85.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Albaugh competed in the shot put for Northwood. Her best toss of 13.14m was good enough for a seventh place finish.
