Volleyball Falls In Five Sets At Grand Valley State

The Northwood University volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 contest at No. 21 Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon (September 21).  Set scores were 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-12.

Northwood falls to 5-5 overall, 0-2 in the GLIAC.  GVSU improves to 8-2 overall, 2-0 in the GLIAC.

A look at the final stats shows Northwood's attack percentage was the key to the contest.  In the two sets that the Timberwolves won, NU had 27 kills and six errors on 73 attempts (.288).  In the three sets the Timberwolves lost, NU had 31 kills and 18 errors on 106 attempts (.122). 

For the match, Northwood hit .190 overall (58-24-179).  GVSU finished at .218 overall (64-23-188). NU held an 84-83 edge in digs and an 8-6 advantage in blocks.

Three Timberwolves finished with double-figure kill totals, led by Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine). She had 16 kills, 14 digs and a pair of blocks.  Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) had a career-high 14 kills to go along with 12 digs.  Middle blockers Cassandra Marsh (Maumee, Ohio) and Kristin Perschon (Schaumburg, Ill. /Conant) added 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Northwood will travel to Tiffin Friday (September 27).  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
