Volleyball Sweeps Lake Superior State 3-0

The Northwood University volleyball team returned to GLIAC play with a 3-0 win over Lake Superior State Friday night (November 1).  Set scores were 25-15, 25-14, 25-18.

Northwood improves to 16-7 overall, 9-3 in the GLIAC.  Lake Superior State falls to 4-15 overall, 2-10 in the GLIAC.

Northwood got off to a good start in set one, scoring seven of the first 10 points of the match. LSSU got no closer than two points the rest of the set.  The Timberwolves hit .286 (10-2-28) in the set, while LSSU finished at .000 (10-10-40).

The Timberwolves scored the first four points of the second set to earn the early lead.  The Lakers chipped away at the lead, but Northwood would lead the entire set.  The Timberwolves scored eight of the final 10 points of the set. NU hit .370 (12-2-27) while holding LSSU to a .033 (9-8-30).

The third set was tied 3-3 when the Timberwolves took over.  Northwood scored seven straight points to open up a 10-3 lead.  LSSU got no closer than four points the rest of the way.  Northwood had their lowest attack percentage in a set in the match (.179 – 11-6-28), but held the Lakers to a -.061 mark (9-11-33).

For the match, Northwood finished with a .277 attack percentage (33-10-83) while Lake Superior State finished at -.010 (28-29-103). The Timberwolves finished with a 31-26 edge in digs and an 8-2 advantage in aces.

The balanced Northwood attack featured three players with seven kills.  Cassandra Marsh (Maumee, Ohio), Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine). Elizabeth Barker (Williamsburg, Ind./Northeastern) led Northwood with 10 digs, while Jordan Dunn (Bowling Green, Ohio) had a match-high 28 assists to go along with two aces.

Northwood will travel to Saginaw Valley State Saturday (November 2). Match time is set for 2 p.m.
