INSIDE THE MATCH – ASHLAND

• The opening set was evenly played, but it appeared the Timberwolves were ready to take a 1-0 lead with a 23-21 late. But the Eagles finished strong, scoring five of the final six points to win 26-24. Northwood hit .389 in the set (17-3-36) while Ashland finished at .343 (17-5-35).
• NU led 4-3 early in the second, but Ashland scored eight of the next nine points to take over. The Timberwolves got no closer than five the rest of the way as AU took the second 25-17. Ashland got even better offensively in the second, hitting .421 (18-2-38). Northwood hit .225 (14-5-40).
• The third set saw Northwood led 8-7 before another Ashland run keyed the final set AU win. The Eagles scored seven straight points, five of which came off Northwood attack errors. Ashland eventually finished the sweep with a 25-17 third-set win. Both teams fell back on offense in the third: AU hit .191 (13-4-47) while NU finished at .018 (11-10-57).
