Cross Country Shows Out At Northwood Invitational

OVERVIEW – NORTHWOOD INVITATIONAL

LOCATION: Fisher Family Trails – Midland, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood cross country opened its 2023 season at its lone home meet of the season, the Northwood Invitational, on Saturday (September 9). The Timberwolves showed well on both the men's and women's sides. Northwood's men won while the women placed second as a team.

INSIDE THE WOMEN'S RACE (5,000 METERS)

  • Northwood placed second overall in the women's event with a team score of 43.
  • Northern Michigan won the meet with 18 points.
  • The Timberwolves had three athletes set new personal records (PR) including their leading racer, Sarah Zehr. Zehr's 28-second PR moved her into a tie for the seventh-best 5K performer in Northwood history. She finished fourth overall at 19:11.50.
  • Northwood had three racers run their first collegiate races and two move up the top 25 performers list.

NORTHWOOD RESULTS:

 

INSIDE THE MEN'S RACE (6,000 METERS)

  • Northwood dominated the JC Electric men's 6K, placing nine racers inside the top 10. Seven of those nine racers set new PRs and two athletes ran sub-19-minute races.
  • The Timberwolves finished first as a team with 15 points while Lake Superior St. took second with 68.
  • Northwood's Brandon Boyd, Carson Laney, Josh Jones, Preston Earl, and Joseph Shaya rounded out the top-5.
  • A total of 8 teams and 71 runners competed in the race.
  • Five NU athletes competed in their first collegiate race.
