Men's And Women's Cross Country Competes At NCAA Midwest Regional

OVERVIEW – NCAA DII MIDWEST REGIONAL

LOCATION: LEWIS CROSS COUNTRY COURSE – ROMEOVILLE, ILL.

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's cross country began their chase for qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Division II Championships on Saturday (November 9). The teams competed at the Midwest Regional hosted by Lewis in Romeoville, Ill. Northwood men's took 12th while the women placed 19th overall.

INSIDE THE MEN'S RACE (10,000 METERS)

  • Northwood men's cross country ranked 12th out of the 30 Midwest teams, with 333 points.
  • Grand Valley St. took home the regional crown with 40 points, with Lewis (71 points) and Michigan Tech (141 points) rounding out the top three.
  • Carson Laney (32:01.15) led the Timberwolves, taking 43rd amongst the 190 racers. 
  • Two Timberwolves moved into Northwood's top-25 all-time performer's list for the finishes. (Jacob Wartenberg – 32:40.08 - 14th and Baraka Sila – 32:56.51 - 20th all-time).
  • Northwood's top-five average time was 32:30.19, including a 49.73 spread.

NORTHWOOD RESULTS:

INSIDE THE WOMEN'S RACE (6,000 METERS)

  • Northwood women's cross country placed 19th out of the 31 teams competing, finishing with 564 points.
  • Grand Valley St. left with both regional crowns with only 20 points from their women's racers. Lewis placed second with 64, followed by Cedarville with 146 points.
  • Sarah Zehr led all Timberwolves, pacing Northwood's racers with an 88th place, 23:31.53 finish. 
  • Northwood's top-five runners had an average time of 23:54.66 for a spread of 48.02.

UP NEXT

  • Northwood men's and women's cross country await their fate with selection to the NCAA DII Cross Country Championships at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex (Sacramento, Calif.) on November 23. A total of 34 teams will be selected to compete. Teams and individual athletes will be notified on November 11.
