Bio

Fred Smiley averaged 32.0 points per game in his career at Northwood, the highest scoring average in school history. He scored 791 points and 360 made field goals in the 1972-73 season are both single-season records at Northwood. Smiley also has the school records for made field goals (24) and points (56) in a game. Despite playing just two seasons at Northwood, Smiley ranks 11th in school history with 1,473 points. Smiley also became the first Northwood athlete to earn All-America honors, claiming First Team Associated Press College Division honors. Smiley was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the seventh round of the 1973 NBA Draft.
