Baseball Defeats Tiffin 8-4 To Complete Series Sweep
The Northwood University baseball completed a three-game series sweep over Tiffin with an 8-4 victory Monday afternoon (April 22).
Northwood is now 15-18 overall, 10-12 in the GLIAC. Tiffin falls to 17-24 overall, 11-14 in the GLIAC.
The Dragons got the scoring going in the third inning with a single run, but the Timberwolves responded right away. Northwood plated four runs in the bottom of the inning. Jake Oard (Beaverton, Mich.) and Cody Rogers (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) had back-to-back RBI singles to give Northwood the lead. Then with two outs, Eric Altman (West Bloomfield, Mich./St. Clair) had a two-run single to put Northwood up 4-1. With the score 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth innings, the Timberwolves plated three two-out runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Oard. The Dragons got one in the seventh but got no closer than that.
Oard led the Northwood offense, finishing with three hits, three RBI's and a run scored. Rogers had two hits and an RBI, while Altman had a hit and two RBI's.
Andrew Joseph (Sylvania, Ohio/Owens CC) picked up the win in relief. He allowed one earned run in five innings to claim his fourth win of season.
Northwood will travel to Davenport for a single game Wednesday (April 24). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
