Baseball Drops Pair Of 4-1 Games At Wayne State

DETROIT, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball team dropped a pair of games at Wayne State Saturday afternoon (April 18). Both games ended with a final score of 4-1.

Northwood falls to 21-17 overall, 14-8 in the GLIAC. Wayne State stands at 17-17-1 overall, 11-10-1 in the GLIAC.

WSU took a 1-0 lead in game one in the first inning, which remained the score until late in the game. Northwood leveled the score in the fifth inning, but Wayne State responded with three runs in the fifth. The Timberwolves went 1-2-3 in the final two innings to give the Warriors the win.

Both teams finished the game with four hits and two errors. The four total errors led to just one of the runs in the game being earned.

Tanner McCarn (Olivet, Mich./Kellogg CC) had two hits to lead the way for the Northwood offense. Logan Meadors (Oxnard, Calif./Midland Univ.) took the loss despite pitching well. He allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out five in six innings of work.

In game two, Northwood opened the scoring in the third inning with a single run. The score remained 1-0 until the seventh inning, when Wayne State scored two runs. The Warriors added two more in the eighth to round out the scoring.

WSU finished with an 8-2 edge in hits in game two. The Timberwolves managed just two singles in the game.

Nick Barrientos (Zionsville, Ind./Danville Area CC) had a single and an RBI for Northwood. Alex Lewandowski (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) pitched well in the loss, striking out 10 while allowing one earned run in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Northwood and Wayne State will finish their weekend series with a pair of games on Sunday (April 19). The doubleheader will being at Noon.
