Baseball Drops 5-0 Contest To Ashland In GLIAC Tournament

XENIA, OHIO – The Northwood University baseball team saw its 2015 season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to Ashland in the GLIAC Tournament Friday afternoon (May 8).

The Timberwolves finish the season with a 28-23 overall record. Ashland moves on in the tournament at 35-15.

The Eagles scored all of the runs in the game in the second through fourth innings. Ashland scored one in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth. The Timberwolves got at least one runner on base in six of the nine innings but was unable to score.

For the game, Ashland finished with 11 hits to five for Northwood. The Timberwolves drew four walks and left seven runners on base for the game.

Grant Bridgewater (Bay City, Mich./Western) led the Northwood offense with two hits including a double. Shawn Larner (Gladwin, Mich.) and Larry Wood (Essexville, Mich./Garber) pitched effectively for NU in relief. Larner struck out a pair in 1 1/3 shutout innings, while Wood held the Eagles off the board over the final three innings of the game.

Northwood finishes the season with the second most wins in school history (28), trailing only the 1990 team which won 30. The Timberwolves set a school record for most GLIAC wins in a season (20).
