Baseball Drops 12-8 Contest To Ashland

DAVENPORT, FLA. – The Northwood University baseball team dropped a 12-8 contest to Ashland Sunday (March 6).

The contest was a non-GLIAC matchup. Northwood falls to 4-4 with the loss. Ashland stands at 4-2

Ashland got off to a good start in the game, as the Eagles scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Northwood chipped away at the lead with one in the first and third inning. After AU made the score 5-2 in the fourth, the Timberwolves responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game 5-5.

The sixth and seventh innings proved to be the difference in the game, as the Eagles placed three runs in each frame to open up an 11-5 lead. Northwood scored two in the eighth, but Ashland added one run of their own in the top of the ninth. Trailing 12-7 in the ninth, Northwood loaded the bases with nobody out but was only able to score one run in the inning.

Ashland finished with a 15-10 advantage in hits in the game. Both teams did a good job drawing walks – Northwood ended up walking eight times while Ashland finished with seven walks.

Cody Kuzniczci (Madeira, Ohio/Northern Kentucky) led the Northwood offense on the day, going 4-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) scored three runs while driving in a pair, while Connor Foley (Bay City, Mich./Western) had two hits and an RBI.

Northwood will play a single game against Minnesota State Mankato Monday morning (March 7). First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
