Baseball Earns 2-1 Win Over Walsh

AUBURNDALE, FLA. – The Northwood University baseball team picked up their third straight victory Friday (March 11), downing Walsh 2-1.

The game was a non-GLIAC contest. Northwood is now 8-5 on the season. Walsh falls to 6-8 with the loss.

The Cavaliers got a pair of doubles in the first inning to go up 1-0. But that would prove to be the final run for Walsh on the day. Northwood tied the game in the sixth on a two-out RBI single by Connor Foley (Bay City, Mich./Western) that scored Nick Barrientos (Zionsville, Ind./Danville Area CC). The Timberwolves then took the lead in the eight on an RBI fielder's choice from Nick Black (Chesterfield, Mich./Grand Rapids CC) that plated Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.). Walsh had runners on first and third in the bottom of the ninth when the game ended.

Northwood had 11 hits in the game (all singles), while Walsh had seven hits (three singles, four doubles). The Timberwolves drew the lone walk in the game.

Lee led the Northwood offense with three hits on the day. Foley added a pair of hits and an RBI, while Daniel Pulver (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) and Tanner McCarn (Olivet, Mich./Kellogg CC) each added two hits.

Alex Lewandowski (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) was strong on the mound. He allowed one run on five hits in eight innings, striking out eight while allowing zero walks to earn his second win of the season. Shawn Larner (Gladwin, Mich./Alma College) got the final three outs to pick up his second save of the season.

Northwood will finish its Florida trip with a doubleheader against Alderson-Broaddus. First pitch is set for 9:30 a.m.
