Baseball Splits At Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, KY. – The Northwood University baseball team split a pair of games at Bellarmine Friday afternoon (March 18). Northwood picked up an 8-5 win in game one before Bellarmine earned an 11-1 victory in game two.

Northwood is now 10-7 overall on the season. Bellarmine stands at 7-8.

In game one, the Timberwolves got off to a good start, scoring one in the first and three in the second to lead 4-0 after two innings. The Knights fought back, scoring three in the third and one in the fourth to tie the game. Northwood went back on top for good with a pair in the sixth to go up 6-4. After Bellarmine cut the lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth, Northwood scored one in the eighth and one in the ninth to earn the win.

Northwood finished with a 14-9 advantage in hits for the game. Both teams drew three walks in the contest and committed one error.

Connor Foley (Bay City, Mich./Western) led the way for Northwood in the game, finishing with 2-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Cody Kuzniczci (Madeira, Ohio) had three hits and two RBIs, while Grant Bridgewater (Bay City, Mich./Western) had three hits and a run scored. Alex Lewandowski (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) improved to 3-1 on the year after allowing four earned runs in six innings of work. Shawn Larner (Gladwin, Mich./Alma College) closed out the contest for his fourth save of the season.

Bellarmine got off to a fast start in game two and never looked back. The Knights scored at least one run in each of the first four innings and led 7-0 heading to the fifth. After Northwood got on the board with a run in the top of the seventh, Bellarmine scored one in the bottom of the innings and added three more in the eighth to claim the win.

The Knights out-hit the Timberwolves 17-5 for the game. Defense was also a big part of the game, as Northwood had five errors which led to four unearned runs while Bellarmine had no errors.

Foley had two more hits to lead the way for Northwood in the game.

Northwood and Bellarmine will finish their weekend series with a single game Saturday (March 19) beginning at Noon.
