Baseball Splits Doubleheader At Findlay

FINDLAY, OHIO – The Northwood University baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon (March 26) at Findlay. UF won game one 6-5 in nine innings before NU took game two 2-0.

Northwood is now 13-9 overall, 3-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play after taking three of the four games in the series. .Findlay stands at 8-9 overall, 1-3 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Findlay responded in the bottom of the inning with their biggest frame of the weekend. The Oilers, who scored a total of 10 runs in four games on the weekend, plated four of those 10 runs in in the bottom of the third. Northwood would not go away, scoring two in the fifth to cut the lead down to 4-3. Down to their final out, the Timberwolves tied the game in the top of the seventh on an error from Findlay. Northwood took the lead in the ninth on a wild pitch. Much like Northwood in the seventh, Findlay was down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth when a two-run double gave the Oilers the victory.

For the game, Findlay out-hit Northwood 8-4 while Northwood drew eight walks to Findlay's four. Missed opportunities haunted the Timberwolves in the loss, as NU left 10 runners on base to Findlay with four.

Senior Cody Kuziniczci (Madeira, Ohio/Northern Kentucky) led the way for Northwood once again, finishing with three of the Timberwolves' four hits in the game, two doubles and two runs.

Game two was scoreless until the sixth inning when Northwood got a key two-out hit. Richie O'Neil (Wheaton, Ill./College of DuPage) two-run single proved to be the only scoring play of the game.

The two teams combined for just seven hits in game two (Northwood – four, Findlay – three). Both teams had chances to score – NU left eight on base while UF stranded six.

Daniel Pulver (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) went 2-3 with a double and a run scored. O'Neil finished with a hit and two RBIs. Brogan Fischer (Godfrey, Ill./Illinois Central CC) picked up his first win at Northwood, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings of work. Larry Wood (Essexville, Mich./Garber) retired the final two batters of the game to finish the win.

Northwood will travel to Malone for a weekend series starting Saturday (April 2).
