Baseball Drops Pair At Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball team dropped a pair of games at Hillsdale Tuesday afternoon (April 12). The Chargers picked up a 9-3 victory in game one before earning a walk-off 4-3 win in game two.

Northwood is now 14-12 overall, 4-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Hillsdale improves to 19-9 overall, 7-3 in the GLIAC.

In the opener, the Chargers got off to a fast start, plating three runs in the first of a seven-inning contest. The score remained 3-0 until the fifth inning when Hillsdale put the game away with a six-inning frame. Northwood scored all three of their runs in the seventh inning.

For the game, hits were close (Hillsdale 8, Northwood 6), but five of HC's eight hits went for extra bases (three doubles, two home runs). Northwood managed one home run in the game by senior Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.).

Lee ended up with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Northwood offense. Connor Foley (Bay City, Mich./Western) finished 2-4 in the game.

Game two saw the Timberwolves get out to 1-0 lead in the first of a nine-inning game. Hillsdale plated one in the second and two in the third to go up 3-1. Northwood responded with a two-run seventh inning to level the score 3-3.  The score remained that way until there were two outs in the bottom of the ninth when the Chargers got a walk-off double to earn the win.

Hillsdale finished game two with an 8-7 edge in hits. Both team teams drew three walks each. NU left seven runners on base compared to five for HC.

Cody Kuzniczci (Madeira, Ohio/Northern Kentucky) led the way for Northwood in the game, going 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Daniel Pulver (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) had an RBI double for the Timberwolves. Logan Meadors (Oxnard, Calif./Midland Univ.) got a no decision in the contest despite going six innings. He allowed three runs on five hits.

Northwood will travel to Grand Valley State Wednesday afternoon (April 13) for a GLIAC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
